Forty years ago, this beautiful old house was the set of the movie The High Bright Sun with Dirk Bogarde, with Puglia standing in for the movie’s setting of Cyprus. Now the house has been restored with the care and the passion that only those who love a building can provide .
The villa is equipped with every comfort and furnished with taste and style.
Two apartments for rent .
The ground floor one ( UP TO 4 PERSONS ) has a spacious and light-filled kitchen with a big stone fireplace. There is a living room and an upper floor accommodating the double bedroom. Two comfortable single sofa beds in the lounge area complete the sleeping arrangements. There is a large bathroom with a shower and plenty of sunlight.
The main entrance to these Puglia vacation rentals leads into the apartment from a very large terrace overlooking the sea.
Masseria Basso has another very nice little suite , the ideal place for HONEYMOONERS (or for those who wish they are ) : air conditioning, large bedroom with armchairs, bathroom with hand-painted tiles, cosy kitchen in a little tower. This sits in the attic of the house and might be rented together with the ground floor apartment if you are two couples or more than four people. - PLEASE ASK FOR OTHER PICTURES.
Masseria Basso is in an enchanting and tranquil spot in the heart of the Gargano National Park, easily reachable from the main road, and not so far from other tourist destinations such as Vieste, Peschci, San Giovanni Rotondo (a religious site) Monte Sant' Angelo, and the Amalfi Coast (two hours away). The Gargano promontory is very different to the rest of Puglia; a rugged spur jutting out from the coast and covered in forests. Now a 15,000-hectare nature reserve, the Parco Nazionale di Gargano is home to thousands of different species of flora and fauna, including deer and wildcats. Within the park, you can visit the Foresta Umbra or "Forest of Shadows", a beautiful blanket of Aleppo pine, oak and beech.
The Gargano is also home to some of Puglia's best beaches. Its capital, Vieste, is a pretty medieval town that gets incredibly busy in the summer but also boasts one of the region's most spectacular beaches. This looks out onto the towering Scoglio di Pizzomunno, an enormous monolith of rock in front of the beach.
Surrounded by many points of interest, such as the Archangel Michael Basilica in Monte Sant’Angelo , the Umbra forest , the white high cliffs of the coast nearby , the house makes a perfect base from which to explore the area. It is very nicely suited to simply relaxing in a quiet area. Although the beaches (both rock and sand) are not far from here, and there are hill towns a plenty to discover in the valley and nearby mountains.
